Breastfeeding was not easy but I was determined to breastfeed my second baby panda. As a second time mom but first time breastfeeding mom, I had to get some research done. During the pregnancy, I was preparing myself by reading books, asking friends who previously breastfed and following a Facebook page that had great information. Delivery day came and after being in labor for 7 or so hours, my little Panda Boy decided to make an appearance!
Now, my first attempt of breastfeeding after the labor was not successful. Even though I read all the breastfeeding materials I had invested in, it was hard. I didn’t know what position to hold him so he could latch, to me he felt so fragile. The nurses and lactation consultants were helpful but once he latched, they would leave and then it all went downhill because he would unlatch and I could not get him to latch back on for the life of me. I spent my first night in the hospital tired and worried that he wouldn’t get enough to eat.
Fast forward to bringing him home, two months of breastfeeding challenges. TWO months of buying multiple nursing pillows, nipple shields in different sizes, trying to pump and bottle feed him, sleepless nights and exhausting days all to breastfeed. Those two months were the worst. I even sent the husband to the store in the middle of the night for formula so I could get some sleep and baby would be fed. One night of formula caused me to feel so guilty because all I wanted to do was breastfeed. I had read the ingredients and all I read was preservatives…this made me more determined to breastfeed.
Now, almost 5 months in, I can say I am exclusively breastfeeding SUCCESSFULLY! Aside from just nursing my baby panda on demand, I even have a great stash going!
Breastfeeding takes time, energy, patience.
For any moms out there they want to give up nursing…don’t! It was worth all the struggle but there is always light at the end of the tunnel! The benefits of breastmilk is real!
Please feel free to ask any questions! I would love to help any moms that needs encouragement or recommendations!
